My research focuses on investigating the scope and course of problematic and addictive technology use (e.g., video gaming, Internet, smartphone), including describing the characteristics of different types of problematic technology use and common etiological risk factors across these behaviors, developing and validating measurement instruments, and evaluating interventions that can address these problems. I am also interested in studying the intersection of video gaming and gambling, including identifying and exploring gambling features in video games (e.g., loot box, social casino games, eSports betting) and the impact of these gambling features on the development of problem and addictive gaming and problem gambling behaviors.
