My research investigates the mechanisms by which the brain senses peripheral nutrient status and accordingly regulates glucose and energy homeostasis with a particular interest in hypothalamic glucose sensing neurons. I am also interested in how these mechanisms go awry during obesity and diabetes and how this information could be used to develop therapies for treating these diseases. We use a variety of technigues to study glucose sensing including electrophysiology, imaging, stereotaxic surgery and histology.
