100M Americans suffer from chronic pain, fueling the opioid crisis. My postdoc research focused on the neurobiology and emotions related to chronic pain. One project examined the impact of alternative therapies like yoga and acupuncture. Another investigated the emotional aspects of pain, particularly aggression. I also developed a new pain assessment method for mice, combining videography and machine learning. Now, as an associate teaching professor, my research involves undergraduates. We’re creating tools to study pain in Drosophila and exploring the sleep-pain connection. I also collaborate with rodent pain researchers, aiming to create inclusive research spaces for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
