I primarily work on the interface between emotion dysregulation and psychopathology, with a focus on maladaptive behaviors including nonsuicidal and suicidal self-injury, eating disorders, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. In the Emotion and Psychopathology Lab (EMP) we aim to better understand the emotional and interpersonal contextual factors that precede these behaviors and how maladaptive behaviors function to reduce distress. Work in my lab also includes clinical treatment outcomes with substance use behavior in acute psychiatric settings and developing novel technological interventions to improve maladaptive and substance use behaviors.
