“Towards Personalized Reproductive Psychiatry”

Reproductive psychiatry is currently a field of trial and error. We don’t know which patient’s disorders will improve, worsen, or persist; we also don’t know which treatment will work best for a patient until she tries it. Optimizing early intervention is particularly critical in reproductive psychiatry, not only because puberty, pregnancy, and menopause are times of heightened vulnerability to psychopathology, but also because the consequences of delaying intervention during these reproductive time points are often long-lasting. In this talk, I will describe how I envision combining neuroimaging and machine learning to answer these clinical questions in women’s mental health. First, I will present my recent work on sex differences in personalized functional networks. Next, I will present my graduate work on indicators of and treatments for perimenopausal executive dysfunction. Finally, I will describe the path I envision towards developing sex-specific machine learning models that aim to personalize early interventions in reproductive psychiatry.
