DESCRIPTION:This course examines how the field of addiction treatment and recovery has evolved since the development of 12-step recovery spaces in the 1950’s\, from societal conceptualizations about addiction to how treatment and evidence-based practices have shaped what we now call clinical addiction treatment. Particular attention will be paid to how paradigms\, stigma\, and oppressive systems have influenced and shaped addiction and treatment trends. Participants will critically examine the successes and pitfalls of addiction treatment as it stands today\, including specific models and systems of recovery and what the field calls “evidence-based practices”. NJHRC will be hosting monthly virtual Overdose Education & Naloxone training to learn how to identify and respond to an opioid overdose with rescue breaths\, naloxone\, and radical love. Our program will also cover the nuances surrounding current drug supply trends\, with updated information as overdose responses evolve in correlation. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, May 13\, at 12 pm ET for a presentation of the NJ ACTS Special Populations Core 2025 Seminar Series -“Epidemiologic Challenges in Using Claims Data to Study Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Trajectories” with Danya M. Qato\, PharmD\, MPH\, PhD.\n\nThe presentation will introduce the audience to her FDA-funded project titled ‘Data-informed Models to Identify Optimal Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) Treatment Trajectories’ and discuss specific epidemiologic challenges to using longitudinal healthcare claims data to study OUD treatment pathways\, namely focused on implications of cohort\, index date\, and exposure definitions. Dr. Qato will also share preliminary findings from her analysis of healthcare claims data of Medicare and commercially-insured populations with OUD.\n\nDr. Danya Qato is an associate professor in the Department of Practice\, Sciences\, and Health Outcomes Research at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy with a secondary appointment in Epidemiology at the School of Medicine.
