SUMMARY:9th International Research Conference on Adolescents and Adults with FASD
DESCRIPTION:Despite thousands of published articles on FASD\, limited research focuses specifically on adolescents and adults with FASD. As individuals diagnosed with FASD age\, the “need to know” across a broad spectrum of areas continues to be critically important for identifying clinically relevant research questions and directions that will impact their day-to-day function and health outcomes. \nBuilding on the work of eight previous conferences*\, we aim to examine relevant global research\, programs and policies. What can we learn from practice-based evidence? What does existing or emerging research tell us? Are the results transferable from country to country and/or from laboratory and clinical studies to real life? Are there clinical implications of results from any of these areas of which we should be aware? What are the changes in our thinking\, practice and directions that will be required to improve outcomes? What are the implications for the future? \nWe hope you can join us at this interactive conference and be at the forefront of addressing these relevant global issues. \n*This conference\, previously held in Vancouver\, Canada and hosted by University of British Columbia’s Interprofessional Continuing Education\, has been moved to Seattle\, the birthplace of the FASD diagnosis in North America. FASD United has taken on the task of putting on this unique global FASD conference in consultation with the International Adult Leadership Collaborative (ALC) FASD Changemakers\, a group of talented and dedicated individuals with FASD who are leaders in the community. \nThis conference has been moved to Seattle\, Washington – the closest place to Vancouver and the birthplace of the FASD diagnosis in North America. \nThe Hyatt Regency Seattle | 808 Howell St\, Seattle\, WA \nFor more information\, click here.

SUMMARY:Primary Care Collaborative Webinar: The Evidence Behind Whole-Person Primary Care
DESCRIPTION:Join the Primary Care Collaborative for a discussion about reimagining primary care to better integrate lifestyle medicine\, behavioral health and non-pharmacological interventions. Health care is abuzz about the importance of whole-person health. But what exactly does “whole-person health” mean? What does the evidence show about its effectiveness? And how can primary care adequately address the whole person? Panelists will summarize the research on how interprofessional approaches to whole health—inclusive of physical\, behavioral\, spiritual\, and socioeconomic well-being—impacts outcomes\, costs\, and the experiences of patients and their care teams. The webinar will also feature a short presentation from PCC President and CEO Ann Greiner about a new initiative promoting whole-person health. \nShawna Hudson\, PhD\, senior associate dean for population health research\, will take part in a panel discussing the transformation of primary care with a focus on integrating lifestyle medicine\, behavioral health\, and non-drug treatments.  \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:SSW Webinar - Addiction and Recovery 2024: Where We Have Been\, Where We Are Going
DESCRIPTION:This course examines how the field of addiction treatment and recovery has evolved since the development of 12-step recovery spaces in the 1950’s\, from societal conceptualizations about addiction to how treatment and evidence-based practices have shaped what we now call clinical addiction treatment. Particular attention will be paid to how paradigms\, stigma\, and oppressive systems have influenced and shaped addiction and treatment trends. Participants will critically examine the successes and pitfalls of addiction treatment as it stands today\, including specific models and systems of recovery and what the field calls “evidence-based practices”. Special attention will be paid to how the fields of neuroscience\, epigenetics\, and neuropharmacology have informed what we know today about addiction\, and what it means for integrative recovery strategies moving forward. \n\n\n\nInstructor: \nKatherine Glick\, LPC\, CCS\, ACS\, MAC\, BCHHP\n\n\nDate: \nWednesday\, April 24\, 2024\n\n\nTime: \n10:00 am – 1:00 pm ET\n\n\nLocation: \nLive Interactive Online Webinar\n\n\n\nFor more information\, click here.
