DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Northeast and Caribbean Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center (NeC-ROTAC) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNationwide\, we continue to see an increase in substance use across communities. Rural communities have unique challenges regarding access to services\, and other social determinants of health can impact the wellbeing of community members. This workshop will address this increase in substance use\, including its overall impact in rural areas. We will discuss the wide range of social determinants of health which impact community members accessing resources. This workshop will also discuss the process of community assessment to determine how communities are impacted and how to access potential resources. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW\, is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker. She has held numerous administrative and clinical positions within both the addictions and mental health disciplines. She is an adjunct professor at both Touro College and Hunter College Silberman Schools of Social Work. In conjunction with her numerous roles\, she also conducts and develops trainings for mental health and addictions professionals in both direct practice and leadership positions. She is currently a Research Project Manager at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Medical Center\, where she works with the Opioid Response Network and Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center within the Northeast and Caribbean (HHS Region 2).\n\n\nFor more information and registration\, click here.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Northeast and Caribbean Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center (NeC-ROTAC) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants may be familiar with the term person-centered care\, but may struggle with how to apply this approach with clients. SUMMARY:I4SUD Webinar - Xylazine: Where are the Market Gaps?
DESCRIPTION:The veterinary tranquilizer xylazine is being associated with a rising count of overdose fatalities across the country amidst the ongoing crisis of drug addiction and overdose. Persons are often exposed to xylazine unintentionally through adulterated heroin/fentanyl products. Data on this critical public health threat are just emerging and suggest that xylazine exposure changes the experience of fentanyl and may lead to medical consequences such as skin ulcers. There exist pressing gaps in the surveillance and medical treatment of xylazine\, whichKelly E. Dunn\, Ph.D.\, M.B.A. (at DrKellyDunn) will explore in this webinar\, focusing on areas where inventive solutions are urgently required. \nAfter Dr. Dunn’s talk\, Dr. Supriya Munshaw will discuss the I4SUD program and how it can help researchers bring their inventive solutions to market. \nFor registration\, click here! \n

SUMMARY:NeC-ROTAC Virtual Training - Care and Concern Interventions to Address Substance Use and Mental Health in Rural Communities
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Northeast and Caribbean Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center (NeC-ROTAC) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs we think about the impact of substance use and mental health within rural communities\, a key component is accessing the resources available. In this webinar\, we will discuss potential interventions that can be implemented or strengthened within rural communities. This workshop will focus on how providers and community members can develop collaborative networks to support members of their community who may be facing substance use and mental health challenges in their daily lives. We will also discuss potential prevention methods to be introduced within community spaces to reduce the impact of substance use on individuals and families\, and increase engagement in mental health care. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW\, is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker. SUMMARY:NJ ACTS Special Populations Seminar with Dr. Daniel Myran: "Changes in Healthcare Visits Due to Cannabis Use Following Legalization of Non-medical Cannabis in Canada"
DESCRIPTION:An increasing number of countries and US states have legalized or are considering the legalization of cannabis for non-medical use. A major concern is that legalization could increase cannabis use and associated harms. This presentation will review studies tracking changes in healthcare visits due to cannabis in children and adults following non-medical cannabis legalization in Canada. \nDr. Daniel Myran is a clinician-scientist and assistant professor with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is an associate scientist at ICES\, where his research program focuses on using natural experiments combined with linked health administrative data to better understand the impacts of public policy on mental health and substance use healthcare visits and outcomes. He practices family medicine with an interest in addiction medicine. \nRegister to receive the Zoom link: click here! \n

SUMMARY:NeC-ROTAC Virtual Training - Harm Reduction Principles\, Strategies and Benefits
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Northeast and Caribbean Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center (NeC-ROTAC) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith increasing overdose rates\, a more lethal drug supply\, and more prescription medications in many homes\, it’s important to educate a wider audience about harm reduction and what it means: essentially\, reducing the negative consequences of potentially risky behaviors. This workshop will present different definitions of harm reduction\, highlight how we all practice harm reduction in our lives\, and explain how harm reduction strategies are implemented in different settings\, with a focus on rural communities. It will also address community concerns and hesitations about harm reduction\, ways to reduce the harms of stigma surrounding drug use\, and opportunities to build bridges between harm reduction and treatment for people with substance use disorders. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Susan Stellin\, MPH \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information and registration\, click here.
