SUMMARY:Inaugural Eating Disorders Lecture with Daniel J. Drucker\, MD - "Gut-derived medicines change outcomes for cardiometabolic disorders"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Drucker is an Endocrinologist and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at University of Toronto. He holds the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre-Novo Nordisk Chair in Incretin Biology. His laboratory is based in the Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and studies the molecular biology and physiology of the glucagon-like peptides.  Dr. Drucker received training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology from the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the University of Toronto\, followed by a fellowship in molecular endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His discoveries have enabled development of several new GLP-1-based therapies for the treatment of diabetes and obesity and GLP-2 analogues for intestinal failure. SUMMARY:NeC-ROTAC Webinar - Person-Centered Care: Applications in Methadone Maintenance Treatment and Outpatient Program Settings
DESCRIPTION:Participants may be familiar with the term person-centered care\, but may struggle with how to apply this approach with clients. This workshop will define person-centered care and the application of this approach from the beginning of treatment to the end stage in outpatient settings. Participants will also learn the key components of OASAS standards of documentation of person-centered care in the treatment record of clients under their care. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW\, is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker. She has held numerous administrative and clinical positions within both the addictions and mental health disciplines. She is an adjunct professor at both Touro College and Hunter College Silberman Schools of Social Work. In conjunction with her numerous roles\, she also conducts and develops trainings for mental health and addictions professionals in both direct practice and leadership positions. Morgan is a Professor of Pathology\, Obstetrics & Gynecology\, and Biomedical Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He also serves as the Program Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship and Associate Director for the Center for Developmental Health at OHSU. Dr. Morgan’s research involves determining how uteroplacental vascular remodeling during pregnancy affects blood flow to the placenta leading to common maternal pregnancy complications and fetal programming of adult-onset disease in their progeny. His research also aims to develop and validate new methods to screen patient blood samples for cell- and size-specific extracellular vesicles (EVs) for diagnostics and sorting for further biomarker development. \nKjersti Aagaard\, MD\, PhD\, FACOG\nDr. Kjersti Aagaard is the National Director of Perinatal Research and Medical Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine of Texas at HCA Healthcare. Dr. Aagaard serves as a Research Scientist at the Maternal Fetal Care Center in the Division of Fetal Medicine and Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital\, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Aagaard’s research focuses on the role of the microbiome in pregnancy and early developmental programming\, and the impact of key exposures in pregnancy on fetal development and later in life. DESCRIPTION:Many providers and agencies in rural communities are familiar with the core components of both Trauma-Informed Care and Recovery Planning but may not be familiar with the preparation necessary to provide trauma-informed recovery planning in collaboration with their clients. DESCRIPTION:As we lean more and more into equity in a variety of spaces and places\, health equity has become a significant part of this ongoing conversation. Health and the concepts of equity are interconnected in a variety of ways when working with our clients\, not just around health outcomes\, but improving their overall quality of life. Another aspect to this connection is the concept of intersectionality and how it has an impact on how and why clients may or may not access care or have adequate access to receive care. This workshop will lean into the connection between health equity and intersectionality and how they each play a role in providing equitable substance use care in rural communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW\, is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker. She has held numerous administrative and clinical positions within both the addictions and mental health disciplines. She is an adjunct professor at both Touro College and Hunter College Silberman Schools of Social Work. In conjunction with her numerous roles\, she also conducts and develops trainings for mental health and addictions professionals in both direct practice and leadership positions. She is currently a Research Project Manager at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Medical Center\, where she works with the Opioid Response Network and Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center within the Northeast and Caribbean (HHS Region 2).

DESCRIPTION:Many states have been moving toward the legalization of cannabis and cannabis products\, but the public health implications of these policy changes have not been fully evaluated. An expert committee of the National Academies wrote a report to describe cannabis and cannabinoid availability in the U.S.\, assess regulatory frameworks for the cannabis industry using a health equity lens\, and describe strengths and weaknesses of medical and non-medical surveillance systems. DESCRIPTION:This presentation will describe the role of peer support specialists in the emergency department (ED) and how Dr. Angela Moreland and team integrated this at the statewide level. Dr. Moreland will discuss interviews conducted with peers and their feedback on their role in the ED and perceptions of working with patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). \nAngela Moreland\, Ph.D.\, is a Professor at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC)\, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Moreland has expertise in consequences\, stressors\, and available resources and treatments related to substance use\, with specific expertise in opioid use disorder and assessing for OUD and treatment options in the Emergency Department.
