DESCRIPTION:  \nPlease join the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) for an informative and interactive free webinar: How Does Alcohol Impact the Lives of Older Adults – And What Can We Do About It? \nAs the population of older adults 65 and above expands rapidly\, so do the rates of alcohol use and misuse among people within this age group. The body changes as we age\, and these changes render people more susceptible to some of the harms that stem from alcohol use. While the percentage of people ages 65+ who consume alcohol each month increased by 16% between 2002-2019\, due to the size of the aging Baby Boomer cohort\, the actual number of drinkers in that age group increased 80% during that time. DESCRIPTION:The goal of this interactive workshop is to identify the changes that have occurred in the NJ Medicinal Marijuana Program. The history of marijuana legalization and major events that have shaped this history are discussed. Known scientific research on the benefits of medicinal marijuana and the risks associated with marijuana usage are covered\, as well as the continued barriers to better scientific research on this topic. Interactive exercises are incorporated. SUMMARY:GSAPP Webinar - Introduction to Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PAT) for Mental Health Practitioners
DESCRIPTION:This course seeks to provide mental health practitioners with an overview of Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PAT) as it stands today\, including the use of ketamine\, MDMA and psilocybin. The field of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy is changing and evolving\, with new laws being introduced across the country at a rapid pace. This course will include topics such as; brief history of psychedelics and the field of psychology in the US\, as well as ethical considerations and an overview of current legal limitations and laws. Our presenters will discuss the anatomy of a PAT session\, harm reduction in the field of psychedelic work\, cultural concerns and considerations\, as well as increasing accessibility for under-served populations. Special consideration will be paid to the importance of preparation and integration work for all clients\, which providers qualify to provide PAT and the role of “sitters” or non licensed practitioners\, clients who make good PAT referrals\, and mental health challenges and issues which may be helped or improved by PAT. Finally this course will explore PAT clinics and retreats\, both domestic and abroad. SUMMARY:Inaugural Eating Disorders Lecture with Daniel J. Drucker\, MD - "Gut-derived medicines change outcomes for cardiometabolic disorders"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Drucker is an Endocrinologist and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at University of Toronto. He holds the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre-Novo Nordisk Chair in Incretin Biology. His laboratory is based in the Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and studies the molecular biology and physiology of the glucagon-like peptides.  Dr. Drucker received training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology from the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the University of Toronto\, followed by a fellowship in molecular endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His discoveries have enabled development of several new GLP-1-based therapies for the treatment of diabetes and obesity and GLP-2 analogues for intestinal failure. Morgan is a Professor of Pathology\, Obstetrics & Gynecology\, and Biomedical Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He also serves as the Program Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship and Associate Director for the Center for Developmental Health at OHSU. Dr. Morgan’s research involves determining how uteroplacental vascular remodeling during pregnancy affects blood flow to the placenta leading to common maternal pregnancy complications and fetal programming of adult-onset disease in their progeny. His research also aims to develop and validate new methods to screen patient blood samples for cell- and size-specific extracellular vesicles (EVs) for diagnostics and sorting for further biomarker development. \nKjersti Aagaard\, MD\, PhD\, FACOG\nDr. Kjersti Aagaard is the National Director of Perinatal Research and Medical Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine of Texas at HCA Healthcare. Dr. Aagaard serves as a Research Scientist at the Maternal Fetal Care Center in the Division of Fetal Medicine and Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital\, Harvard Medical School. DESCRIPTION:Many providers and agencies in rural communities are familiar with the core components of both Trauma-Informed Care and Recovery Planning but may not be familiar with the preparation necessary to provide trauma-informed recovery planning in collaboration with their clients. While working with clients to both plan for their recovery and address challenges to their recovery\, trauma in its many forms has a role to play as a part of this planning. This workshop will lean into providers and caregivers identifying and recognizing the role and impact of trauma on recovery planning and how to work with clients to identify when trauma activation may impact their recovery plan This workshop will review the core components of trauma-informed care and lean into how to work with clients to identify how and when trauma impacts during their recovery journey. \nPresenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell\, LCSW\, is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker. She has held numerous administrative and clinical positions within both the addictions and mental health disciplines. She is an adjunct professor at both Touro College and Hunter College Silberman Schools of Social Work.
