SUMMARY:NIH PATH Study Data User Workshop
DESCRIPTION:NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is sponsoring an online Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study Data User Workshop to be held on August 13-14\, 2025. \nThe Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study is a collaboration between the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)\, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP)\, Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The PATH Study is a household-based\, nationally representative\, longitudinal cohort study of approximately 46\,000 adults and youth (ages 12-17) in the United States. The PATH Study was launched in 2011 to inform the FDA’s regulatory activities under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act\, which was signed into law in 2009. \nCourse Description: This workshop will utilize hands-on examples to better understand the PATH Study sample design and weighting. Specifically\, attendees will gain a better understanding of how to conduct longitudinal analyses to estimate change over time\, as well as pseudo-cross-sectional analyses to estimate prevalence. \nThe workshop will include a brief overview of the PATH Study and a detailed discussion of the sample design and weights for all PATH Study public-use data files available from Wave 1 – Wave 7 (including youth\, adult\, and special collections). Participants will gain hands-on experience working with the public-use data files and understanding the weighted results. Instructors will review the types of restricted-use data files that are available from the PATH Study\, but these will not be utilized during the workshop. \nThis workshop will focus on understanding and using the PATH Study data files\, not on a specific analytic approach. The workshop will combine lecture\, discussion\, and hands-on exercises. This workshop will only be offered virtually. \nTo attend\, please apply by June 30th. DESCRIPTION:On July 1st-2nd\, The Forum on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders will host a public workshop to address to examine how health and human services structures influence mental health and substance use disorder (MHSUD) outcomes\, particularly in communities with limited access to care. \nInvited presentations and discussions will be designed to: \n\nExamine the impact of structural factors such as healthcare and social service infrastructure\, service accessibility\, and the availability\, quality\, and effectiveness of MHSUD care and support services\, including how social determinants of health can either facilitate or create barriers to care.\nExplore strategies\, such as telehealth\, to enhance care coordination and service linkages\, including housing support\, economic assistance\, and community-based interventions to improve treatment access and engagement.\nDiscuss evidence-based approaches for integrating health and social services to improve prevention and treatment outcomes for MHSUD populations.\nConsider the role of policies and accountability measures in strengthening service delivery and reducing disparities in mental health and substance use care.\n\nThe planning committee will develop the workshop agenda\, select and invite speakers\, and moderate discussions. DESCRIPTION:The primary goal of the Annual Scientific Meeting (“Meeting”) is to provide a forum for alcohol researchers – from all disciplines – to present their latest findings and to learn about new research developments in an environment that will provide interaction at both the professional and personal level. \nThe Meeting begins with an Opening Reception (meet and greet style) on Saturday evening and ends with the Closing Ceremony (sit-down dinner with presentations) on Wednesday evening. The history of marijuana legalization and major events that have shaped this history are discussed. DESCRIPTION:Evidence shows that among the most likely to witness an overdose are people who use drugs\, care providers\, neighbors\, and loved ones – none of which are mutually exclusive\, and all of which may include you. NJHRC will be hosting monthly virtual Overdose Education & Naloxone training to learn how to identify and respond to an opioid overdose with rescue breaths\, naloxone\, and radical love. Our program will also cover the nuances surrounding current drug supply trends\, with updated information as overdose responses evolve in correlation. SUMMARY:APF Webinar: Building Effective Public Health Communications Campaigns on Substance Use Treatment and Overdose Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a three-part webinar series that explores how to design and deliver effective public health communications campaigns related to addressing substance use disorders and overdose\, drawing directly from the experiences of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS)\, a multi-state\, community-driven effort to reduce overdose deaths in 66 communities across Kentucky\, Massachusetts\, New York\, and Ohio.  \n\n\nThe goals of the campaign were to: 1) increase acceptability and demand for evidence-based practices (EBPs) to treat opioid misuse\, opioid use disorder (OUD)\, and opioid overdose death; and 2) decrease stigma toward people who use opioids\, OUD\, and EBPs\, especially the use of medications for OUD. HCS coalitions successfully implemented four main distinct campaigns tailored to local needs\, which included campaigns that focused on: \n\n\n\n\nObtaining and carrying naloxone \n\n\nDecreasing MOUD stigma \n\n\nRaising awareness of MOUD treatment \n\n\nStaying in MOUD treatment \n\n\nBased on lessons learned from the HCS\, each session will offer practical guidance\, real-world case studies\, and actionable tools to help attendees prepare\, plan\, and sustain communications efforts in their community.
