SUMMARY:GSAPP Webinar - Practical Tools for Treating Body Dissatisfaction and Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:This introductory continuing education webinar gives participants practical tools for recognizing and responding to body dissatisfaction and eating-disorder concerns in everyday clinical work. Participants will learn how to ask effective screening questions\, spot red flags across different ages and presentations\, and document risk in a clear\, clinically useful way. The training focuses on concrete interventions—language that reduces shame and skills to shift clients toward values-based coping. Participants will leave with guidance for managing common treatment snags\, including ambivalence\, secrecy\, family dynamics\, and social media triggers. The webinar concludes with actionable next steps for safety planning\, referrals\, and level-of-care decisions\, and coordinating care with medical and nutrition providers. \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIdentify and assess body dissatisfaction and eating-disorder risk using practical screening questions\, observable red flags\, and clear documentation practices.\nCorrect at least two longstanding myths about eating disorders.\nImplement in-session interventions that reduce shame and unhelpful body-focused behaviors while strengthening values-based coping and adaptive skills.\nExplain two reasons\, shown by research\, why these disorders can be so persistent and thus challenging to treat.\nIdentify at least three ways you can be helpful to clients with eating disorders.\n\nFor more information and registration\, click here.

Seeley\, PhD – Dr. Randy J. Seeley is the Henry King Ransom Endowed Professor of Surgery\, Internal Medicine\, and\nNutritional Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He also serves as the director of\nthe NIH-funded Michigan Nutrition Obesity Research Center (MNORC). His scientific work has focused\non the brain-gut axis and its role in the regulation of energy balance and metabolism with a focus on\nnew treatment strategies. He and his lab have worked to understand the actions of GLP-1 agonists and\nidentify the molecular underpinnings of the potent effects of bariatric surgery on weight and\nmetabolism. \nLinda Rinaman\, PhD- Dr. Linda Rinaman is a distinguished research professor in the Department of Psychology and the R.\nBruce Masterton Professor of Neuroscience at Florida State University. She is coeditor in chief of Brain\nStructure and Function. Her current research using rodents includes anatomical and functional analysis\nof glucagon-expressing cells in the brain and periphery. SUMMARY:GSAPP Webinar - Harm Reduction Psychotherapy for Substance Use and Other Addictive Behaviors
DESCRIPTION:This training will provide a clinical roadmap of harm reduction psychotherapy as a compassionate\, non-judgmental framework for engaging and treating clients navigating active substance use and addictive behaviors. Moving beyond traditional abstinence-only models\, this approach empowers clinicians to support a range of client-directed goals\, including abstinence\, moderation\, and safer use. Discussions will also focus on how to address the co-occurring complexities accompanying substance use such as a history of trauma\, relationship issues\, and mood and anxiety disorders. Therapeutic strategies to build compassion and collaboratively establish sustainable positive changes will be reviewed. Participants will gain practical skills to foster a collaborative therapeutic alliance\, help clients cultivate mindfulness practices\, and develop self-regulation skills. \nLearning Objectives \n\nIdentify three core principles of harm reduction psychotherapy.\nSummarize the efficacy of harm reduction strategies. \nDescribe how “urge surfing” can help with managing cravings and emotional triggers.\n\nInstructor Bio \nJenifer Levy\, PhD is a licensed psychologist with a private practice serving clients in New York\, New Jersey\, and Connecticut.  Dr. Levy specializes in the treatment of addictive issues and trauma from a harm reduction framework that is collaborative\, compassionate\, and non-judgmental. Dr. Levy obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Tech and completed her internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Princeton House Behavioral Health. She previously worked as the Assistant Director of The Center for Optimal Living\, an outpatient private practice in NYC\, where she coordinated clinical services and training activities along with providing psychotherapy. She also taught and supervised graduate students in psychology as the Assistant Director of the Concentration in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling at The New School for Social Research. Prior to that\, she was a Supervising Psychologist at the Women’s Health Project at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in NYC. In addition to offering psychotherapy services\, Dr. Levy facilitates trainings on a range of topics related to addictive issues\, harm reduction\, mindfulness approaches\, and working with trauma survivors.
