DESCRIPTION:The Center of Alcohol and Substance Use Studies will be hosting a virtual talk on July 9\, 2025\, with Dr. Lorna Crean where she will cover the topic “Raise the Roof: Cognitive Effects of Homelessness and Implications For Problematic Substance use Recovery.” \n\nBefore pursuing her PhD\, Dr. Crean earned a B.S. in Psychology from Dublin City University and spent two years conducting research at the Dublin Simon Community\, focusing on the health and recovery trajectories of individuals in a drug stabilization unit. Her dissertation\, based on this work\, explored cognitive functioning in people experiencing homelessness and its impact on substance use recovery\, offering insights for treatment and psychological interventions.\n\nRegister here!

DESCRIPTION:Are you an early career scholar interested in learning more about NIDA research areas? NIDA’s research training and career development team will be hosting a 5-part series of virtual webinars this summer called the “NIDA Summer Seminar Series” every Wednesday in July from 1:00pm – 2:00pm ET and all are welcome to attend! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar #2 on July 9\, 2025 Dr. Tisha Wiley from NIDA’s Division of Epidemiology\, Services and Prevention Research (DESPR) will be presenting on approaches to addressing addiction in adolescents and young adults\, including increasing uptake of effective interventions such as Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUDs)\, engaging family and loved ones\, and long-term recovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar #3 on July 16\, 2025 a panel of distinguished NIDA substance use disorders (SUD) researchers and career development professionals including Drs. Catalina Lopez-Quintero\, Charles Parry\, Silvia Cruz\, and Jeffrey Samet will engage in a panel discussion on “Identifying and Collaborating with Research Mentors.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar #4 on July 23\, 2025 Dr. Tristan McClure-Begley from NIDA’s Division of Neuroscience and Behavior (DNB) will introduce behavioral pharmacology approaches used to study the effects of psychoactive substances\, examples of commonly used addictive and therapeutic drugs\, and how new technology is changing how we measure drug effects. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar #5 on July 30\, 2025 Dr. Lorenzo Leggio from NIDA’s Intramural Research Program (IRP) will provide a presentation exploring emerging basic\, translational\, and clinical evidence supporting the role of gut-brain neuroendocrine pathways (e.g.\, glucagon-like peptide-1) in addictive disorders\, highlighting these pathways as potential targets for the development of novel treatments. \n\n\n\n\n  \nJoin using this Microsoft Teams webinar link!
